The Jack Rabbit Cause

Not all of us have the time, security and personal confidence to protest against hierarchical injustices in the world. Some of us are disabled, and can't do the long periods of waiting around - others can't risk arrest in their lives, if they have dependants or are sole earners who may lose their jobs. For those people out there that can do these things, and rightfgully so, we wanted to offer some secondary-level support for the cause through fundraising.

The accountability spreadsheet, complete with donation receipts, is available here.

A portion* of all net profits from my Jack Rabbit items go towards a rota of different causes, including:

  • The Good Law Project, focusing on holding the British Government to account when they break the law, through lawsuits and exposition of information.

  • Liberty, the UK's largest civil liberties organisation. They campaign for everyone to be treated equally, from Kill the Bill protests to protecting trans rights.

  • Black Protest Legal Support, a network of lawyers providing pro-bono support to protesters in the UK (with focus on racial injustices and Black Lives Matter protests), particularly those who cannot afford or have access to legal representation.

  • NetPol, who seek to monitor British public order, protest and street policing, and to challenge and resist policing which is excessive, discriminatory or threatens civil rights.

  • Bail for Immigration Detainees, who challenge immigration detention in the UK, and provide free legal advice, information and representation to thousands of people held in detention across the UK

  • Detention Action and Refugee Action, two separate organisations that focus on a combination of direct assisstance to those held in detention, facing deportation and those seeking asylum, and standing up to inhumane British legislation that dangerously ignores the human rights of people in these categories.

Typically, the portion is set to a minimum of 50%, and I am looking to donate up to 100% depending on my costs as a small business. This percentage may be even larger wherever possible, including on the t-shirt campaigns I hope to do and and larger pre-orders etc.If there is anything I should be aware of regarding these organisations making them unsuitable of support, please don't hesitate to contact me on a social platform to let me know.

The Good Law Project is a not-for-profit campaign organisation that uses the law to protect the interests of the public. They fight cases that defend, define or change the law and use litigation to engage and educate. They challenge abuses of power, exploitation, inequality, and injustice.

Liberty was founded in 1934 in response to brutal police attempts to stop protests during the Hunger Marches and the ‘general and alarming tendency to encroach on the liberty of the citizen’. Since then they've become the UK’s largest civil liberties organisation, with more than 15,000 members and supporters. They campaign for everyone in the UK to be treated fairly, with dignity and respect.

NetPol seeks to monitor public order, protest and street policing, and to challenge and resist policing which is excessive, discriminatory or threatens civil rights. They have built an inclusive network of activists, campaigners, lawyers and researchers and through active campaigning, sharing knowledge and building awareness, they aim to effectively challenge policing strategies which are unnecessarily damaging.Netpol works in partnership with community and activist based groups that monitor policing within distinct communities, or who monitor the policing of protest through the deployment of legal observers.

Bail for Immigration Detainees is an independent charity that exists to challenge immigration detention in the UK. They challenge immigration detention by providing free legal advice, information and representation to thousands of people held in detention across the UK. Through their research and policy work, they challenge existing detention policy and practice as well as pressing for an end to detention.

Refugee Action help people who’ve survived some of the world’s worst regimes. They get them the basic support they need to live again with dignity, and then they help them build safe, happy and productive lives in the UK. Their vision is that refugees and people seeking asylum will be welcome in the UK; getting justice, living free of poverty and being able to successfully rebuild their lives.

Black Protest Legal Support are a group of lawyers and non-lawyers who know that peaceful protests are a vital part of any democratic citizen’s political engagement. The Black Lives Matter protests in London and throughout the UK allowed millions of people to show their anger at the state of racial inequalities in our country and across the world. They believe that no one should be silenced in these protests by the police, or any intimidating legal concerns, and they particularly look to help those who cannot afford legal representation or access legal aid.

Detention Action have worked since 1993 to defend the rights and improve the welfare of people in immigration detention. They have supported thousands of detained people, as well as advocating tirelessly to keep detention on both the political and media agenda. They're a small organisation with a big impact, working on the frontline with people in immigration detention, as well as challenging injustice in detention, deportation, and asylum systems in the UK.
